Dr. Weisoly is a Neonatologist in Houston. He is passionate about neonatal education, and is truly excited to bring the Neonatal Insights Review Course and the Neonatal Insider web site to life.
Dr. Weisoly is married and a father of twin extremely premature boys born in 2002 and a daughter born in 2005. He attended Columbia University in New York City, where he graduated with a double major in Biology and Comparative Literature. He then attended Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, receiving his medical degree in 1998, honored with the Golden Stethoscope as Valedictorian of his class. He also won Most Outstanding Awards in Gross Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Biochemistry, Pathology, and numerous other disciplines.
He completed his internship and Pediatric residency training at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where he began research on placental growth factors. He then completed his fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at UT-Houston Medical School in 2004, serving as Chief Fellow in his final year. He continued his placental growth factor research and completed the Clinical Research Curriculum at UT-Houston as well.
In 2004, Dr. Weisoly moved to Morristown, New Jersey and the Goryeb Children’s Hospital, where he became a leader in evidence-based practice and guideline development, and was appointed Assistant Professor at the New Jersey Medical School, teaching Critical Appraisal of Literature and Clinical Application of Evidence. His teaching was well attended by residents and attending physicians alike.
In 2006, Texas called him back, and he joined Pediatrix Medical Group in Dallas, Texas. Over the next nine years, he co-directed the large Dallas-Ft. Worth NICU Quality Improvement Collaborative, including 3 level IV NICUs and 29 total NICUs across the region. This collaborative was highly successful in reducing central line infections, improving growth and nutrition in thousands of VLBW neonates, increasing breast milk use, standardizing transfusion preparation, and reducing ventilator days. His NICUs won numerous national quality improvement awards, and he became recognized as a national leader in collaborative quality improvement.
He also became a national education leader, directing the annual Specialty Review in Neonatology conference in Orlando, Florida, the largest comprehensive review course for Neonatologists in the U.S., co-directed with Dr. Matthew Saxonhouse.
In 2014, Dr. Weisoly returned to his home in Northwest Houston to lead Neonatal and Pediatric Services at Children’s Memorial Hermann The Woodlands and Houston NW Medical Center. In 2015, he became Co-Chair of the Memorial Hermann Neonatology Clinical Practice Council. In 2021, he was instrumental in combining Houston’s Neonatal and MFM practices into one of the largest such groups in the U.S., averaging a daily NICU census of nearly 250 across 15 hospitals and 8 MFM clinics. He also founded the Houston Area NICU Quality Improvement Collaborative (HAQIC), now including 15 hospitals, and has led quality initiatives through SETRAC and other organizations.
Currently, Dr. Weisoly serves as Adjunct Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology, University of Texas McGovern School of Medicine, where he is also Director of Newborn Advocacy and Government Affairs.
Dr. Weisoly has served as Chair of the SETRAC Perinatal Committee, founding Chair of the Texas Regional Advisory Council – Perinatal Care Regions Alliance, Neonatal Committee Co-Chair for the Texas Collaborative for Healthy Mothers and Babies, and as a member of the Board of Directors of TETAF. He also completed the Memorial Hermann Health System/UH-Clear Lake Physician Leadership Course and was named Volunteer Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Houston College of Medicine in 2021.
He is honored to direct the Neonatal Insights Review Course, leading a renowned faculty of nationally recognized neonatal educators, authors, and leaders. Known for his can-do attitude, boundless energy, evidence-based approach, and empathy for infants and families, his mission is to ensure that every infant and mother receives the very best care. Through the Neonatal Insights Review Course and Neonatal Insider, he seeks to advance neonatal education and improve care worldwide.
